The balalaika is an incredibly versatile string instrument,
with it you can achieve virtually any sound;
it can be played in the well known folk sound, or classical, like an harp, or even as a modern rock guitar

The Balalaika is a Russian folk instrument which also found its way into the orchestra as a concert instrument.
There are also balalaika orchestras where all the violins,violas and violoncellos are replaced by orchestral balalaikas.

The modern balalaika is found in the following sizes:

   * piccolo
   * prima
   * sekunda
   * alto
   * bass
   * contrabass

the most common solo instrument is the prima balalaika
it can be tuned in many ways but the most common 3 ways are
A-E-E classical
G-B-D guitar style
E-A-D like the domra
